Refrigerators
Refrigerators are in a sense like vacuums sucking dust. Dirt accumulates on a refrigerator's condenser which impairs the effectiveness of the appliance. Remove the grille at the bottom of the refrigerator and vacuum off the condenser. Slide out your refrigerator's defrost pan and clean the pan under your fridge with detergent and water.

A minor maintenance item is ensuring your refrigerator remains level. This helps ensure efficiency of the appliance saving you electric dollars! Another item to check occasionally is your refrigerator and freezers door seals for air leaks.

Ventilation (Vent) Exhaust Hoods
Ventilation Hoods can fill with grease. Grease filled hoods can in turn cause a FIRE! This is a minor appliance cleaning item, which often gets overlooked until there is a problem or even a fire in the kitchen. Remember the old saying "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!" Clean your kitchen's exhaust fan's filter frequently. Pending on your filter type, it may be able to be washed in your dishwasher. At least once a year (This is only once every 365 Days!) wash grease off the exhaust fan and clean inside the duct.

Garbage Disposals
Garbage disposals and waste disposers are a common maintenance problem area. The problem usually is not in the appliance but in the user and the fact they think they can throw anything down the kitchen sink's disposal. Learn what your disposer can handle and what it can not. Items NOT to force down your kitchen's garbage disposal include wood, corn husks, metal, plastic, paper, glass, and wedding rings!

Using chemical drain cleaner is common cleaning mistake which destroys waste disposers. Clean grease off your garbage disposal by grinding up ice cubes! Include this item on your kitchen's monthly cleaning maintenance check list.

These kitchen appliance tips contain many items which are common sense. They are still a good review for all of us to add years to our appliance life and help eliminate portions of the headache of the daily battle against cleaning our kitchen's appliances.

Kitchen Appliances to the regret of most of us all need cleaning :-) .
Doing regular maintenance on your kitchen's appliances is recommended. Please read your manufacturer's cleaning instructions. Although most of us throw them out or can't find the instructions when we want them - :-) If you do have your appliance manuals reviewing their recommendations will take precedence over anything here!

Lets mention one common appliance cleaning mistake before we get started. Number one appliance cleaning mistake - Using Commercial Oven Cleaner! NO, NO, NO! Do Not use commercial oven cleaner as your appliance cleaner if you would like to retain any surface on your kitchen's appliances!

What are a few kitchen maintenance items?

Microwave Ovens
Leaving the microwave door slightly open after using the microwave is one very simple maintenance tip for promoting years of life to microwaves. An occasional cleaning with a mixture of baking soda and water keeps the microwaves interior fresh. Remember oven cleaner in NOT to be used in your microwave oven. Maintaining your microwave also means to check, and not to use microwave ovens with bent doors, loose hinges or latches, or faulty door seals. YOU KNOW WHY - now listen! (Harmful Radiation - Zzzzapping Ya!)

Dishwashers
Using a very lightly dampened cloth is often all that is recommended for cleaning the control panel. Then to the door or the front of dishwasher. Cleaning this area with an appliance wax twice a year helps protect the surface, and give your dishwasher back the shine.

Stoves and Ranges
Cleaning up spills right away is one of the most important tips for your long term surface life on this appliance. Acidic foods containing vinegar damage the finish. Barbecue and other items with ketchup or tomato sauces are one of the most common acidic surface wreckers of ranges and other kitchen appliances. A mixed with water vinegar solution can be used for cleaning - the difference is you are cleaning off the surface right away!

Is your range the style with the built in drop pans? Clean these often to prevent fires. Many people thinking the burners were permanently attached found the burners were actually very easy to remove and reattach.
